3rd ASEAN Automotive Forum 2015 To Focus On Safer Vehicle Issues

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The third series of the ASEAN Automotive Safety Forum (AASF) 2015 scheduled to be held in Bandung, Indonesia from Sept 20 to 22 will focus on safer vehicles issue. The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) in a statement said AASF, organised by the New Car Assessment Programme for Asean (ASEAN NCAP), would also serve as a platform for participants to discuss on the way forward to create a better and positive market for ASEAN automobile industry. It said the focus on safer vehicles was chosen as it was the third pillar of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2010-2020. "Traffic accident statistics especially in Indonesia has shown an increasing trend, reaching the yearly fatalities similar to those in Europe and the United States, which are around 30,000 traffic fatalities per year. "Safer vehicle topic to be discussed in the conference will also be critical as part of the activity to reduce the total number of traffic fatality on the road," said the statement. Meanwhile, ASEAN NCAP secretary-general Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said there would be an announcement of the latest crash test results of Indonesian vehicles and the new rating system that ASEAN NCAP would implement for future test beginning from 2017. AASF will be jointly held with International Conference on ASEAN's Decade of Action for Road Safety: Safer Vehicles, and is a third series after two successful series held in Kuching (capital of east Malaysian state of Sarawak) and Bangkok last year. -- BERNAMA
