4 More Malaysia-Indonesia Guard Posts Next Year

TAWAU (Sabah, Malaysia), Nov 24 (Bernama) -- Four more guard posts would be set up jointly by the Malaysian Armed Forces and Indonesia next year, said Fifth Brigade Commander General Jalaluddin Manan. The reinforcement would curb criminal activities along the 'ratlines' or escape routes at the borders of both countries, he told reporters after the launch of a joint patrol operation at the Serudong Post near here, Saturday. According to him, there are presently two joint posts, at Semanggaris, Indonesia and at Selikoh, Malaysia, which are being constantly manned by 10 personnel from each country. Meanwhile, Indonesian Nasional Military regional commander, Brigadier General Nono Suharno said the additional joint guard posts would strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia. “The guard posts will not only restrict crime involving drugs, smuggling and illegal entry along the ratlines but will rid the border area of criminal activities," he said. -- BERNAMA
