5.0 Magnitude bengkulu Quake Posed No Tsunami Threat

Bandarlampung, Lampung, Sept 17 (Antara) - No tsunami threat has been issued following the 5.0 magnitude earthquake in Bengkulu area, announced the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. An earthquake struck southwest of Bengkulu province on Wednesday, at 9.29 a.m. local time (GMT+7). The weather agency commented that the quake was located at 4.53 degrees southern latitude and 102.59 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 18 kilometers, Head of the Geophysics Station of Kotabumi, Lampung, Yuharman stated here on Wednesday. The epicenter of the quake was located in the south of Sumatra Island`s mainland; 55 kilometers southwest of Bengkulu South; 55 kilometers southwest of Seluma Bengkulu; 88 kilometers southwest of Empat Lawang, South Sumatra; 89 kilometers southeast of Bengkulu; and 504 kilometers northwest of Jakarta.
