6th Tehran Illustration Biennial kicks off

TEHRAN,Nov.4(MNA) – The Sixth Tehran Illustration Biennial was inaugurated in Tehran’s Saba Art and Cultural Institute on Sunday following an 11-year hiatus. Veteran illustrators Parviz Kalantari, Sadeq Sandoqi, Manuchehr Derafsheh and Ali Khodaii were honored with lifetime achievement awards during the opening ceremony. About 400 illustrations have been put on display in the major competition section including a selection of works with the central theme of lights and shadows, a variety of book illustrations, and works by young talents. Illustrators Karim Nasr, Reza Lavasani, Farshid Shafiei and Pejman Rahimizadeh are scheduled to hold several workshops during the event. Over 30 works created by the jury members and the honorees will be shown in an exhibition of illustration opening on the sidelines on November 9. Farshid Mesqali, Behzad Gharibpur, Reza Lavasani, Farshid Shafiei and Alireza Golduzian are the jury members of the biennial. The biennial has been organized by the Office for Visual Arts (of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance) and the Cultural and Artistic Society of Iranian Illustrators. The biennial will be running until November 19 at the Saba Institute located on Mozaffar St., off Taleqani Ave., near Felestin Square.
