76 Rohingya People Evacuated To Aceh Besar

Banda Aceh, Aceh Darussalam, April 8 (ANTARA) - Seventy-six Rohingya people who were stranded in Pulo Aceh in the Sumatran province of Aceh on Sunday were evacuated to Aceh Besar on Monday. The people who fled from Myanmar were taken to Banda Aceh at 10am by speed boats belonging to fishermen under tight police security. Three of the people had to be helped when leaving the boats due to their health conditions. Pulo Aceh is located around 16 sea miles from Banda Aceh. The head of the Aceh Besar transportation service, Mahdi Efendi, said the Myanmarese people of the Rohingya ethnic group would be temporarily accommodated in the Malahayati port complex in Kruen Raya, Aceh Besar. "We will temporarily accommodate them there in view of the adequate facilities there. We will later coordinate with other offices concerned with regard to the future," he said. He said a health team would check their conditions while an immigration team would collect data about them. The Aceh Besar district administration has coordinated with the IOM in connection with the people. Five under-ten year old children and five women are found among them. Aceh has been one of the provinces in the country has often received Myanmarese refugees.
