Up to 80% voters in Bangkok expected to turn out for Charter referendum

BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) - The chief of election commissioners in Bangkok, Sompop Ra-ngabtuk, says he believes that at least 80 per cent of voters in the capital should turn out to exercise their right in the upcoming referendum on Thailand's new Constitution draft, set on August 7, as earlier targeted. Sompob expressed the confidence on Thursday when he also announced his Bangkok office's readiness for next month's referendum, noting that his office has launched public relations (PR) campaigns on the Charter referendum through all media channels in all areas in the capital. Sompob acknowledged that a referendum is different from an election, as there are no competitions between parties, no campaigns and no conflict, causing it to be less exciting than an election. According to the Bangkok chair of the election agency, the primary result of the August 7 Charter referendum should be known by 8pm on the day. (TNA)
