A 96-year-old war veteran receives a new flat

Almaty, April 06, 2010 (Khabar) - A 96-year-old war veteran Muhammed Yelemesov has a dream, to visit again the places of battles and Hungary where his best friend died. The veteran puts on his festive suit rarely, Muhammed Yelemesov wears it on the main holiday in his life, May 9, Victory Day. But on the day of coming journalists he has put it on. There are very many various medals, orders, signs of honor were on the chest of the veteran. He also received many gratitude letters for freeing cities Yassy, Yelni, Smolensk. Muhammed Yelemesov doesn’t remember the details of most battles. He went to the army in 1940 and in 1941 he was sent to the front. The train was bombed while approaching to Stalingrad and he was among few who had survived. Muhammed Yelemesov was 19 and there were two Kazakh men in the regiment where he served, he and Karabai Zholdas. But his friend died in Hungary. In 1973 Muhammed Yelemesov visited Hungary and found a memorable plate with surname of dead friend. But it was written Karabayev Yu, not Karabayev Zholdas.

Bauyrzhan Yelemesov, son:
- When archives documents were studied, it turned out to be Karabayev Zholdas. They discovered my father also fought there and the Hungarian government gave him the title of the honorary citizen of Hungary, honorary citizen of Budapest. Then he was given a medal “For seizure of Budapest”.

Muhammed Yelemesov, participant of World War II:
- I especially value the medal “For seizure of Budapest”. We liberated several cities in Hungary and that’s why its residents respected us very much, for my participating in those battles.

The veteran celebrated the Victory Day in Vienna at the title of private first class of guard. He graduated from conservatoire after returning home and played in the Kurmangazy orchestra until retiring. He didn’t played the dombra for 15 years but for us, journalists he has played. And he apologized if the play would be not good, because he doesn’t hear what he is playing. Wife of Muhammed Yelemesov died 5 years ago and now the veteran lives together with son. He tries to do household work while the son is at the job. But it becomes more and more difficult for him and besides there are no any conveniences in the house.

Bauyrzhan Yelemesov, son:
- Father has a dream to visit Hungary and bow to the grave of his friend Karabayev Zholdas.

The veteran says it is his cherished dream and the man can’t live without dream even at the age of 96.
The representatives of Zhetysu district administration have met with the veteran and brought good news. Five war veterans, who live in this district, will receive flats. And our hero is among them.

Zhannat Murunova, deputy mayor of Zhetysu district administration, Almaty:
- Less than three years have passed since the moment of taking the queue. The documents were sent to the housing department at the end of February and we think he will pass the commission and receive a flat till May 9.

Muhammed Yelemesov, participant of World War II:
- I spent my youth at the war and now I am old and found myself in these conditions. That’s why I thank everybody for new dwelling.
