AA's director general visits quake-hit region

ERCIS (A.A) - November 14, 2011 - Anadolu Agency (AA) Executive Board Chairman & Director General Kemal Ozturk has visited the eastern province of Van which was hit by two major earthquakes recently. Ozturk visited on Monday the press center in tent site which was established in Ercis town of Van, and spoke with the journalists as well as Turkish Red Crescent teams. Besides search and rescue teams, press members also worked successfully following the earthquake, said Ozturk. Van had been hit by a massive earthquake measuring 7.2 on Richter scale on October 23, killing 604 people. The city was jolted by a second quake measuring 5.6 on Richter scale last week which killed 32 people. Ozturk said that the press avoided news stories which could cause indignation in the society and which would make the propaganda of terrorist organization. He added that press members also took the sensitivities of the society into consideration while preparing the news stories.
