Abadi Heads a High Level Delegation In Washington

Washington / NINA / Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his accompanying delegation arrived in the US capital Washington at dawn today at official invitation of US President Barack Obama. Abadi is accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation comprising, Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi, Oil Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi and higher education, Hussain al-Shahristani, Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari and National Security Adviser Faleh al-Fayyad. Abadi will meet on Tuesday 14, April President Obama to discuss coordinating efforts with the international US-led coalition to defeat Daash and arming the Iraqi army. Abadi will also provide a comprehensive overview for the situation in Iraq in general and the progress made by the Iraqi government since it was formed in 2014. Abadi will also meet US Vice President Joe Biden to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations. Abadi will attend, during his visit the meeting of the Supreme Coordination Committee to discuss the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq and ways to strengthen economic, political, cultural, commercial and security relations within the strategic framework agreement. He also will meet Defense Minister Ashton Carter and Secretary of State John Kerry and a number of congressional leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties. Abadi will also attend a meeting of the countries of the international coalition to fight Daash. Abadi is scheduled to meet representatives of a number of American companies, American Chamber of Commerce, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank president. Abadi will deliver a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on the Iraqi government's strategy for the future of the country. / End
