Abe Welcomes May in Kyoto

Kyoto, Aug. 30 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday welcomed his British counterpart, Theresa May, at a traditional Japanese teahouse in the western Japan city of Kyoto. It is May's first visit to Japan since she took office in July last year. When Abe visited Britain in April, he was invited to May's Chequers country residence near London. May arrived at an airport near Kyoto earlier on Wednesday. Abe and May are scheduled to hold talks in Tokyo on Thursday to discuss topics including tensions over North Korea and Britain's exit from the European Union. May is expected to attend a meeting of Japan's National Security Council. During her stay in Japan through Friday, May is also set to meet with Emperor Akihito. END
