The Municipality is moving ahead with the implementation of the project across Abu Dhabi city as per a pre-set plan, and the project is set for final completion in Abu Dhabi city and suburban areas in October 2015. According to the Municipality, the Addressing System will be later implemented in Al Ain city and the Western Region using the same specifications and technical standards. "More than 60% of signboards with the new names, addresses and streets had been erected, implementation plans had been approved, and streets’ starting and ending points had been specified, besides selecting names, laying column foundations for street name signboards and installing buildings numbers signs, whereas the streets name signboards will be installed after being approved by the competent authorities," the civic body said in an announcement. Concerning the mechanism of communication with the community to introduce the new addressing system and sensitising the population with the names of districts, streets and numbers, the Municipality reiterated its keenness to launch a distinctive large-scale media and advertising campaign in the upcoming period tailored to this strategic project. It is worth mentioning that the Department of Municipal Affairs in Abu Dhabi had launched the new addressing system project (Onwani), whereby the Abu Dhabi City Municipality will install new names on thousands of streets and assign unique and distinctive addresses for more than 65,000 homes and businesses. The move is intended to streamline addresses in a way that contributes to further simplifying mobility and making it easier for residents and visitors to locate their destinations all over the city. – Emirates News Agency, WAM – http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395269691524.html
