Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate receives traffic reports via the CityGuard application

Abu Dhabi (WAM): The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ announced that it will be receiving reports about traffic-related incidents from the public, such as traffic violations committed by motorists on internal and external roads in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through the e-Government application called CityGuard. The application was launched by the directorate, out of its firm belief that road safety is a social responsibility that requires concerted efforts from all society segments; in the quest to make traffic safety a common behaviour. Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, noted that the directorate receives documented reports from the public about cases of traffic law violations, by taking a photo or recording a video. "It is necessary to indicate the number and type of vehicle, location and time of violation and the street where it took place," he said. Moreover, he added that these reports will be handled with confidentiality without disclosing the identity of individuals who made the report, to check their validity and take the appropriate measures. Al Harithi called on all segments of society to assume their civic responsibility through the "Community is a Traffic Cop" initiative, launched by the directorate. The initiative aims to promote interactive participation in the efforts to provide traffic safety and to report traffic violations and dangerous behaviour by motorists, whether on internal or external roads or inside residential neighbourhoods. "Violations include show-off and stunts with vehicles, overtaking on the hard shoulder of the road, jumping red light signals, overtaking trucks and other violations," he indicated. Furthermore, Al Harithi highlighted that receiving traffic reports via the CityGuard app aligns with the Abu Dhabi Government's agenda to encourage public participation in reporting on various issues round the clock, including traffic violations. "This would allow speed of communication and making better use of this electronic application to provide a better and safer traffic environment," added Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi. Adding further, Al Harithi said that encouraging public participation in the efforts to ensure traffic safety is part of the traffic safety comprehensive plan in Abu Dhabi that includes 6 key pillars, known as 6Es+I.
