Acting Thai FM to visit Cambodia July 1-2

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - Acting Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow is scheduled to visit Cambodia from July 1-2, 2014, aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between Bangkok and Phnom Penh. During the two-day trip, Sihasak, who is also Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, will explain Thailand’s political development and will take the opportunity to meet and hold bilateral talks with a Cambodian leader on the Thai Kingdom's foreign policy and a plan on the development of border areas. Sihasak told journalists on Monday that he also hopes to have an opportunity to discuss Thailand's new policy on regulating migrant workers and on moving forward bilateral relations in various areas between Bangkok and Phnom Penh. The acting Thai foreing minister's upcoming visit to Cambodia follows a recent exodus of more than 100,000 Cambodian workers to their motherland for fear of a crackdown on illegal migrant workers by Thai authorities as rumoured.
