Activities to be organized on May Day in Thailand

BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) - As previous years, the Thai government, in cooperation with the private sector, will organize activities marking the National Workers' Day 2018 on May 1, which coincides with the International Workers' Day, also called the "May Day". Thai Labour Minister Police General Adul Sangsingkeo told journalists on Wednesday that the government, through his ministry, will spend about 4.95 million baht on organizing the activities on the May Day in honor of all workers in the country who play a pivotal role behind the national economic growth and prosperity. The minister announced that in Bangkok, this year's activities, jointly prepared by workers' organizations, will be held at the Royal Turf Club of Thailand under Royal Patronage and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Headquarters. According to the minister, religious activities will be first held in the morning, at 7:15am, at the Royal Turf Club of Thailand under Royal Patronage, followed by a parade in honor of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, as well as the Ministry of Labour and 17 workers' organizations, starting from the Royal Turf Club of Thailand under Royal Patronage to the BMA Headquarters. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha (ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา) will, meanwhile, preside over a ceremony to inaugurate the National Workers' Day at the BMA Headquarters in the afternoon, at 2:30pm, during which he will deliver a speech and receive a letter of demands handed by representatives of workers.
