Activities held to commemorate "Sunthorn Phu"

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - Thailand's eastern Rayong province is organizing activities, from June 26-30, to commemorate "Sunthorn Phu", a greatest Thai poet declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1986 as a World Personaltiy with outstanding cultural masterpieces. Rayong Governor Wichit Chartpaisit said June 26 was the birthday of Sunthorn Phu, who was born in the eastern Thai province in the early Ratanakosin era; so, the activities were organized as part of the "Sunthorn Phu Day 2013", themed "The Trails of Sunthorn Phu, the Inscription of the Great Teacher of the Thai Kingdom in Rayong province", in honour of him. According to the governor, the activities include the invitation 10 top poets in the Association of Souhteast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to recite their works, the presentation of "Sunthorn Phu Awards" to regional poets with outstanding works, as well as a stage for S.E.A Write winners of the Thai kingdom to show off their works to locals and international tourists who also have a good opportunity to taste local meals, served in "Kra Pok" or weaved containers, along with participating in other activities as part of the grand provincial event.
