Activities Held Nationwide to Celebrate Thai Mother's Day

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA)- Thai people are doing good on the occasion of National Mother's Day, tomorrow, August 12, pushing the price of jasmine blossoms sky high. In Hat Yai district of the southern province of Songkhla , local authorities, community leaders and villagers of all religions organized a parade of drum dancers to celebrate Mother's Day, also the 82nd birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. There were also mothers' care and social solution activities including anti-narcotics campaigns. In Phatthalung, also in the South, about 300 local residents prayed for the good health of Her Majesty the Queen. In the northern resort province of Chiang Mai, local Buddhist temples are packed with families who are making merit. Vendors received jasmine garlands from wholesalers for resales as local people are buying them to show respect to their mothers. At least 10,000 jasmine garlands were ordered in Chiang Mai. The price of jasmine blossoms has risen about 20 per cent above the normal level. Fresh jasmine flowers are available at Bt500 per kilogramme. And on Bangkok's Rattanakosin Island about 140 vintage vehicles are parading at the Royal Plaza. The Royal Thai Army and the Tourism Authority of Thailand organized the event to mark the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. The spectacular array of vintage vehicles rolled onto the Rattanakosin Island to present the social contribution of Her Majesty the Queen. (TNA)
