AEC to be implemented on Dec 31

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 (TNA) - Government leaders of the 10-member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Sunday officially announced the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) this December 31. The announcement was made on the last day of the three-day 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, held in Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur. Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha and government leaders of nine other ASEAN members signed 2015 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the establishment of AEC and the 2025 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN, aimed at endorsing ASEAN’s visions and plans in the next 10 years. Major contents under the 2025 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN require the 10-member countries to work together more closely on politics and security, economic, and social and culture. Government leaders also agreed that AEC would have their peoples playing the central role and members would look forward for further progress. (TNA)
