Afghan artist to display sculptures at Tehran gallery

TEHRAN,Aug.26(MNA) – Iran-based Afghan artist Alikhan Abdollahi will take a collection of his sculptures made from paper egg trays to Tehran’s Dey Gallery in an exhibition, which will open on Friday. Abdollahi has been living in Iran for many years, and making these sculptures is actually his main job, gallery owner Feryal Salahshur told on Sunday. He will be displaying his works along with a group of self-taught artists, an annual custom established by the gallery owner to help introduce self-taught artists to people. Works by 10 artists including Akram Sartakhti, Davud Kuchaki, Mokarrameh Qanbari and Soghra Abdollahi, mostly focusing on daily life and national or religious beliefs, will be exhibited, she added. The works will be offered for sale, Salahshur said, “The artists love to showcase their works, however displaying works for the artists is more important than putting them on sale.” Self-taught artist Monavvar Ramezani known as “Nanny Hassan” displayed her works at Dey Gallery 2 years ago. The 76-year-old Nanny Hassan was born in the town of Qeydar of Zanjan Province. She used to weave carpets and draw carpet designs, but found interest in paintings over the past few years. Her paintings are rooted in the folktales and traditional rituals of the region. The exhibit will be running until September 6 at the gallery located at 130 Atefi St., off Vali-e Asr Ave., near Mellat Park.
