Aid For Nepal Quake Victims Sent To RMAF Base In Malaysia’s Subang

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), May 8 (Bernama) -- Foodstuff and essential goods worth about US$207,966 (RM750,000) meant for Nepal earthquake victims was sent to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base in Subang, Thursday. Team Force Security Sdn Bhd managing director N. Thirumoothy said the items were gathered at the RMAF Base for onward transfer by air to Kathmandu on Friday. "Two lorries were used to carry more than 300 boxes which will be sent using RMAF aircraft," he told reporters after the sending off ceremony here, Thursday. The aid mission was organised by the Office of the Special Envoy to India and South Asia (Prime Minister's Department) in cooperation with Hot Media Sdn Bhd, Team Force Security Sdn Bhd and All Malaysia Malayalee Association. Thirumoothy said it was also contributed by the public and would be continued if permission was obtained from the Malaysian government and authorities in Nepal. Meanwhile, the Special Envoy to India and South Asia (Infrastructure), S. Samy Vellu thanked Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for allowing the RMAF aircraft to ferry the goods to Nepal. He said no cash was given and it only involved essential goods such as medicine, blankets, tents, clothing, kitchen utensils, drinking water and foodstuff. An earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Nepal at 2.56pm (Malaysian time) on April 25, regarded as the worst to hit Nepal in 81 years. --BERNAMA
