AirAsia:Aviation business should grow by 20% this year

BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) - Thai AirAsia has forecast that the aviation industry will likely expand by as much as 20 per cent this year, thanks to growing tourism in Thailand. Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asia Aviation Co, the operator of Thai AirAsia, made the projection on Tuesday, saying that AirAsia plans to increase flights on popular routes in Thailand, including those to Chiang Mai in the North and Hat Yai and Phuket in the South. For international routes, Tassapon noted, AirAsia will focus on China and Indochina, as the number of visitors to Thailand from the neighbouring economies is soaring. The Thai AirAsia CEO said he is confident that his airline will serve over 10 million international passengers this year, compared with 8.3 million passengers last year. According to the Thai AirAsia CEO, relocation to Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport, from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport, has allowed his airline to efficiently manage costs and to further improve its aviation services, with punctuality rate now, for instance, standing at 90 on average.
