Airport link train service delayed due to repairs

BANGKOK, March 27 (TNA) - The Airport Rail Link service travelling between the city and Suvarnabhumi Airport has been delayed on Sunday due to repairs of the track switch. General Daran Yuthawongsuk, director of the company said repairs will be made between 11.00 a.m.- 5.00 p.m. Sunday, forcing the trains leaving and arriving the airport to use the same station platforms at three stations, namely Phayathai, Ratchaprarop and Makkasan. It would cause delays between 5 – 10 minutes during the repairing period. One additional train will be on standby to cater passengers using the service. Sunday’s repairs of the track switch service take place after track switch failure caused train service delays on Thursday. In another incident earlier this week, hundreds of passengers were locked inside for an hour in carriages due to a power failure. Officials at the Airport Rail Link admitted that the backup system has been used since the beginning of service five years ago and it is no longer fully functional. Replacements will have to be made for the whole system. (TNA)
