Al Attiyah: GCC Summit Discusses Crises in the Middle East

Riyadh, May 05 (QNA) - The GCC the leaders discussed during the 15th consultative meeting in Riyadh the crises in the Middle East and issues related to international peace and security, said HE Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah said that.    Speaking at a joint press conference with the GCC Secretary General Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani at the end of the GCC summit, HE Dr Al Attiyah said that the consultative meeting reviewed the latest developments in Yemen in view of the results of the Decisive Storm, adding that the meeting stressed on strengthening the legitimacy and the resumption of the political process in accordance with the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue and the relevant Security Council resolutions, in addition to continuing efforts to support the development in Yemen.     HE the Foreign Minister stated that the GCC leaders discussed the continuing stalemate in the peace process, adding that the GCC leaders stressed the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders in accordance with the two-state solution.     The consultative meeting also discussed the Iranian nuclear issue, HE the Foreign Minister said, adding that the leaders affirmed the GCC states' position which called for reaching a comprehensive final agreement that that would guarantee that the Iranian nuclear program is for exclusively peaceful purposes while ensuring the right of countries in the region to the peaceful use of nuclear energy in accordance with the criteria and procedures of the International Atomic Energy Agency and that these procedures and criteria include all countries in the region.     The GCC leaders reviewed the developments in the Syrian crisis which further aggravated as the Syrian regime continues to kill civilians using internationally banned weapons, Dr Al Attiyah added, pointing out that the GCC leaders called on the international community to take all legal procedures guaranteed by international law to end this crisis, with an emphasis on a political solution that achieves the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, and welcomed Riyadh conference for Syrian opposition to develop a transition plan for the post-Bashar al-Assad regime.     His Excellency said that the consultative meeting discussed the situation in Iraq and the deteriorating security conditions that threaten its integrity and unity, in addition to efforts to support Iraq to come out of its crisis and realize its security, stability and development while maintaining its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity free from any outside interference, as well as to support national reconciliation.      Dr Al Attiyah added that the consultative meeting also stressed the need to fight against terrorism and all its forms and called for strengthening international cooperation in this regard.
