Al-Raya Calls for Exerting Further Efforts to Address Violations of International Humanitarian Law

Doha, May 26 (QNA) - Qatari newspaper, Al-Raya, on Saturday called on the international community to exert more efforts and take further measures to fully address the violations of the international humanitarian law and human rights and to hold those responsible accountable, stressing the importance of immediate and decisive action by the members of the Security Council aimed at ending and preventing atrocities. Al-Raya stressed the importance of full and effective compliance with international law as essential to the protection of civilians and contributes to the avoidance of many civilian deaths, suffering and displacement. Al-Raya highlighted Qatar's address to the Security Council meeting on "Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict", delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, which stressed that the most effective way to protect the civilians is to invest in the prevention and peaceful settlement of conflicts, based on the principles of justice and international law. Al-Raya underlined that Qatar recognizes the importance of protecting civilians, especially since the world today is witnessing a continuous and widespread deterioration because of the horrifying disregard of the rules and laws adopted by the international community to mitigate the effects of armed conflicts.
