Al-Raya Demands Legal Actions to Hold the Siege Countries Accountable

Doha, June 18 (QNA) - Qatari newspaper Al-Raya on Monday demanded legal measures to hold the siege countries accountable for the damage caused to Qatari citizens and residents in the field of investment and trade. Al-Raya said that the unjust siege imposed on the State of Qatar, which entered its second year, caused crimes and violations against the citizens and residents of Qatar, and resulted in legal effects that require accountability of the siege countries. The paper noted that the siege countries are obliged to accept legal proceedings filed by Qatari nationals or residents in accordance with Riyadh Arab Agreement for Judicial Cooperation, signed by all Arab countries. If the siege countries refused to consider these proceedings or disable them, it would be a violation of Convention which allows Qatar to seek asylum in the United Nations. It also breaches the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, as cutting diplomatic or consular relations must not affect the legal relations. Those affected by the siege can also resort to relevant international organizations to expose the arbitrary measures of the siege countries, the paper added, hailing Qatar's recent decision to file a case against the United Arab Emirates at the International Court of Justice for violations against Qatari citizens and residents. Since the first day of the siege, Qatar monitored and documented all violations and prepared a comprehensive and detailed file to present it to the International Justice. The State of Qatar is keen on preserving the rights of its citizens and the residents on its land, and will force the siege countries to pay for the damage they caused by their unjust and illegal measures, Al-Raya concluded.
