Al-Raya Hails Developing Investment in Pension Funds

Doha, September 24 (QNA) - Qatari newspaper Al-Raya praised the State's interest in developing investment in pension funds, which reflects the leadership's attention to the retirees and awareness of the true meaning of citizenship. In its Monday's editorial entitled "Investing in Pension Funds," Al-Raya highlighted the General Authority of Retirement and Social Security as a support system provided for retired Qatari citizens that contribute to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 through its work on promoting development, social and economic initiatives, which ensure sustainability of pension funds for future generations and society welfare. Qatar proceeds with the development of investment policies to reach the highest growth rates for pension funds, while taking consideration of medium and long term risks, according to HE Minister of Finance Ali Shareef Al Emadi. It is in Qatar's best interest to provide a decent life for retirees as they have greatly contributed to the State during their many years of employment, therefore the State had to pay close attention to the management and investment of pension funds, which amounted to QR90 billion last year, Al-Raya underlined. Investment policies regarding pension funds were developed following extensive technical studies, which would enhance the ability of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority (GRSIA) to continue to provide the best returns to investors. The GRSIA has taken deliberate measures to enable the pension funds to maintain their investment performance, with a growth rate of 6% in investment revenues in 2017 compared to 2016, the paper noted. The State's attention was not limited to retired Qatari citizens, but also included insurance for Qatari nationals working in the GCC countries covered by the retirement system and the citizens of GCC countries working in the State of Qatar, which confirms the State's keenness on protecting this important segment, Al-Raya concluded.
