Al-Raya Hails Launch of COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility

Doha, September 28 (QNA) - Al-Raya newspaper hailed the launch of the COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility, a global initiative and collaboration bringing together public and private sector partners to help local communities recover better from the pandemic. The paper said that the Global Facility is a response to corporate calls to action for private sector leaders and governments to work together to address the negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. Qatar has implemented this initiative since July, through the business Revive Program, which constitutes a new catalyst for the private sector in the country, providing financing on preferential terms to Qatari entrepreneurs and supporting local companies, Al-Raya said. The newspaper referred to HE Chairman of Qatar Chamber and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Qatar) Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani's affirmation that establishing the COVID-19 Private Sector Global Facility is an important step for engaging the private sector in the global efforts to fight this epidemic and minimizes its impacts on the global economy. This initiative, the paper said, aims to boost cooperation between international organizations and countries to help local communities recover better from the pandemic, and will help companies to combat the repercussions of this pandemic on businesses. Launched under the motto "Recover Better Together", the timing of this initiative has special importance, marking the commemoration of some important UN-related milestones: the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations; the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Global Compact; and the Centenary of ICC's founding after WWI at a time when multilateralism is facing the greatest challenge of its generation, the newspaper added. Al-Raya concluded its editorial by saying that the negative impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the growth of societies requires the adjustment of development agendas accordingly, and the existence of comprehensive pluralism based on the important contributions of civil society, business, institutions, the scientific research community, local authorities, cities and regional governments, especially as everyone realizes that better recovering and building more resilient economies are achieved through enhanced cooperation between the public and private sectors.
