Al-Raya Highlights Qatar's Support to Libya's National Accord Government

Doha, June 19 (QNA) - Al-Raya newspaper said in its Friday editorial that the only legitimate government in Libya is that of the National Accord government that is recognized by the United Nations. The paper said that any attempt to topple that government represents an undermining of international legitimacy, adding that the aggression which began by retired general Khalifa Haftar will only bring more destruction to Libya. Al-Raya noted that Qatar announced its support to all efforts that would end the struggle in Libya and move forward towards building a state of institutions and protecting and promoting human rights, especially the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). This came in the statement of the State of Qatar, delivered by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, during the public debate on the report of the High Commissioner on the situation of human rights in Libya, within the work of the current 43 session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Al-Raya concluded the editorial by saying that Libyans can only try to maintain the unity of their land by negotiating rather than engaging in a war that will see no winners. It also called on the conflicting parties to respect its commitment under international law. (QNA)
