Al-Raya Praises Operational Excellence, New Achievements of Hamad Port

Doha, February 14 (QNA) - In its editorial on Sunday, Al-Raya daily hailed the operational excellence achieved by Hamad Port and its great role that contributes to enhancing the country's maritime trade and maximizing trade exchange between the State of Qatar and the rest of the world, as well as its vital role in stimulating growth and diversifying the sources of the economy in order to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030. The newspaper said that Hamad Port has continued to play an important role in placing Qatar on the map of the maritime shipping industry by receiving the world's largest ships and providing facilities in procedures, laws and the free economic zone according to an integrated system of services that attract giant ships and global shipping companies, pointing out that the port increases Qatar's competitiveness and makes Doha a commercial hub for reviving and strengthening intra-trade in the Middle East, and enhancing the region's trade with the world. The paper noted that the importance of Hamad Port stems from the fact that it plays a major role in enhancing the country's maritime trade by increasing the volume of exports and imports, and maximizing trade exchange between Qatar and the rest of the world, in addition to its vital role in stimulating growth and diversifying the sources of the economy, especially since the port receives many refrigerated storage containers continuously and receives up to 1.7 million tons annually of general cargo, which meets the increasing needs for import and export of various goods in the country. In this regard, the paper said that QTerminals company which manages and operates Phase 1 of Hamad Port, and develops and operates Phase 2, has achieved a milestone in workers' safety, after completing 2.808.365 work hours without accidents, lost time or injuries that hinder the progress of operations, noting that this affirms the distinction of the port, and embodies the close cooperation between it and the operating company in order to develop the port as Qatar's gateway to global trade and logistics, and as center for re-export in the region. The paper underlined that this achievement came thanks to strict adherence to precautionary and preventive measures to prevent spread of Covid-19, and to the implementation of health and safety standards determined by the competent authorities in the country. In conclusion, Al-Raya said that Hamad Port is on its way to a new stage of excellence and leadership in the field of commercial ports, which will contribute effectively to supporting the economic diversification process pursued by the State, adding that it is expected that the port will have a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development in Qatar.
