Al-Sharq, Al-Raya Highlight Qatari Partnership with United Nations to Face Challenges

Doha, December 08 (QNA) - Al-Sharq and Al-Raya newspapers highlighted in their editorials Tuesday the continuous support and strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations and its agencies to enable it to face common global challenges and achieve the goals it seeks. The newspapers referred to the launch of the International Hub on Behavioral Insights to Counter Terrorism in Doha, which confirms the State of Qatar's keenness to combat this dangerous phenomenon and its strong involvement; in fact Qatar has led international efforts to combat this phenomenon. For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said that within the framework of its effective contribution to the international efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, Qatar has launched on Monday the International Hub on Behavioral Insights to Counter Terrorism in Doha. It is the outcome of an agreement signed on the sidelines of Doha Forum in 2019 in the presence of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and it is the first center of its kind in the region and the world to combat terrorism and violent extremism. The opening of this office concerned with the application of behavioral visions to combat terrorism and violent extremism comes with the aim to build societies that are immune to fanatic and extremist ideas by focusing on children and youth and ensuring that this basic and important segment of society is protected from extremism and that it is given priority in plans and national and international programs, the newspaper said. Qatar works within the framework of the United Nations and at the national level in order to protect children and youth from extremism. Its initiatives provided support for educating millions of children and youth and working to empower women and create job opportunities for youth, Al-Sharq added. Al-Sharq concluded by saying that hosting this international center not only reflects the close cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations, but also highlights Doha position, which has turned into a global platform for pluralism and a center for many United Nations offices and international institutions in order to achieve the collective interest of the member States and the United Nations system. In turn, Al-Raya daily stated that the opening of the International Hub on Behavioural Insights to Counter Terrorism in Doha confirms the State of Qatar's keenness and its serious endeavors to combat this dangerous phenomenon. This center is considered a step forward to understand the motives that lead to violent extremism and terrorism, and to develop the optimal treatment method to confront and protect the community from crime, extremism and terrorism, the newspaper explained. The newspaper emphasized that this International Hub is the first of its kind at the regional and global level to combat terrorism and violent extremism. It added that the Hub came as a result of the agreement signed in the Doha Forum in 2019 in the presence of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, explaining that the State of Qatar's hosting of this Hub reflects the deep cooperation between it and the United Nations to achieve its goals. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the State of Qatar will continue to consolidate the partnership with the United Nations, enhance the capacity of the relevant agencies in it to perform their tasks, and actively contribute to international efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, the newspaper said. Al-Raya daily stated that the Hub will work on analyzing and understanding the reasons behind youth pivot to crime, violent extremism and terrorism and developing appropriate scenarios to eradicate this phenomenon with all efficacy, adding that the state of Qatar provided a financial contribution of US $ 5 million to establish and implement its work for the next three years. The newspaper noted the State of Qatar's keenness to host the International Hub on Behavioural Insights to Counter Terrorism, which comes out of the deep belief of the State of Qatar in the values, culture and teachings of the true Islamic religion, which rejects terrorism in all its forms. The State of Qatar also believes that combating this phenomenon cannot be done individually, as it requires an integrated approach that combines national, regional and international efforts to address the roots and causes of terrorism, and confront extremist ideologies that incite violence and hatred, and spread chaos and instability in the world, pointing out that children and youth will have the priority in the national and international plans and programs of the Hub. Al-Raya concluded its editorial by saying that we want to build societies immune to fanatic and extremist ideas, and that's why the state of Qatar decided to take a step ahead by focusing on analyzing and understanding the reasons behind youth crime, violent extremism and terrorism and developing appropriate scenarios to eradicate this phenomenon.(QNA)
