Al-Sharq, Al-Raya: Qatar-US Relations Represent Strategic Partnership in Various Fields

Doha, November 22 (QNA) - Qatari daily newspapers Al-Sharq and Al-Raya commended in their Sunday editorials the talks held on Saturday between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Secretary of State of the United States of America Mike Pompeo, who visited Doha, which discussed the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them. The newspapers emphasized that the continuous communication, consultation, coordination and discussion of regional and international developments between the State of Qatar and the US formed part of the strategic partnership and bilateral relations between the two countries. They indicated that Qatar has become a strategic partner for the US thanks to Qatari and US leaderships' keenness to develop cooperation relations in various fields, especially after confirming Qatar's pivotal role in the field of counter-terrorism partnership through its cooperation and coordination with the international alliance to confront terrorism and provide security and stability in region. For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar and the US' commitment to long-term dialogue and cooperation is demonstrated through the Qatari-US strategic dialogue, partnership and cooperation between the two countries in various fields. This cooperation extends from dialogue and coordination on regional and global issues to bilateral cooperation between the two sides, which has turned into a strategic partnership in the fields of health, humanitarian aid, international development, labor and law enforcement, combating terrorism, trade, culture and education, the paper emphasized. The newspaper affirmed that the continuous communication, consultation, coordination and discussion of regional and international developments between the State of Qatar and the US formed part of the strategic partnership and bilateral relations between the two countries, and in this context came the talks on Saturday between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Cooperation in anti-terrorism efforts represents a key item in the strategic partnership between the two countries, which goes beyond economic relations to coordination and consultation in regional and international issues through joint action to enhance international peace and security, Al-Sharq underlined. Among the most prominent forms of coordination on regional and international issues is the great cooperation between the two countries in efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan, Al-Sharq pointed out, adding that Doha sponsored the successful negotiations between Washington and the Taliban that resulted in a historic agreement that put an end to nearly two decades of war. The paper added that Doha is still continuing its efforts, as it is currently leading mediation between the Afghan parties, in coordination with the US, to ensure transit to the stage of comprehensive peace and stability in Afghanistan. Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by highlighting the importance of this partnership, which is indispensable for both countries, namely Qatari investments in the US, energy partnerships that aim to achieve economic growth and prosperity around the world, durability of military cooperation in its various forms, and the support that this provides for regional and international security. In turn, Al-Raya newspaper highlighted the talks held between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani with HE Secretary of State of the United States of America Mike Pompeo which dealt with the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries and aspects of developing them. The Qatari daily stressed the importance of the strategic partnership relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America that included the political, security, military, economic and commercial fields, noting the importance of HE the Secretary of State's visit to Qatar and the talks that affirmed the common keenness to strengthen Qatar-US strategic partnership. The newspaper underlined Pompeo's affirmation that Qatar is a strategic partner of the United States in the field of regional security and the fight against terrorism and also his assertion that the relations between the two countries have been developing from year to year thanks to the two countries' keenness to strengthen them in various fields, especially since Qatar has been playing the role of mediator between Washington and the Taliban. Al-Raya affirmed that Qatar- US relations have transformed from joint cooperation and coordination in defense, fighting against terrorism and countering extremism to an effective bilateral strategic partnership, pointing out that the mutual visits of senior officials in the two countries come within the framework of the joint keenness to consult on this partnership and on regional and international issues of common interest. The paper stated that the US administration has praised the State of Qatar's efforts in combating terrorism and extremism in all its forms and confirms that Qatar has made great progress in this field and that this praise affirms Qatar's efforts in the field of combating terrorism and its role in regional and international stability. Furthermore, the daily indicated that the State of Qatar has become a strategic partner for the United States thanks to the keenness of two leaderships to develop cooperation relations in various fields, so that Qatar become a source of confidence, especially after confirming its pivotal role in the field of counter-terrorism partnership through its cooperation and coordination with the international coalition to combat terrorism and provide security and stability in the region. In conclusion, Al-Raya said that the American interest in the State of Qatar came from its pivotal regional and international role to strengthening security and stability, not only in the Arab region but in various parts of the world.
