Al-Sharq Calls on Parties in Iraq to Practice Restraint to Face Challenges

Doha, December 22 (QNA) - In its editorial on Tuesday, Al-Sharq newspaper called on all parties in Iraq to practice restraint to face challenges plaguing the country. The paper urged the Iraqi parties to unite their efforts, demonstrate a spirit of responsibility, work to maintain security and stability, complete the process of economic reform and prosperity by finding radical solutions and facing challenges. The Qatari daily said that the attack that targeted the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, is strongly condemned, and it is a criminal act that violates all international norms and laws, and this is what the State of Qatar expressed, calling on all parties to exercise restraint in order to overcome the crucial period that the country is going through. The paper also noted the State of Qatar's full support for Iraq and the Iraqi people to reach stability and prosperity. The newspaper said that this criminal attack is unacceptable, as the Green Zone houses government and residential buildings and foreign missions that must be protected. The Iraqi authorities are able to fulfill their responsibilities by taking measures to counter such criminal acts in response to law enforcement and by providing protection for diplomatic missions under international conventions, the paper added. In conclusion, Al-Sharq renewed call for the parties in Iraq to realize their responsibilities in this critical time, and to realize that such criminal acts threaten lives and properties, and harm this vital region and the efforts made to maintain security and stability, at a time when the Iraqi government is making efforts to face the basic challenges in the country, indicating that these criminal acts weaken those efforts and affect the protection of diplomatic missions.
