Al-Sharq Hails Qatar's Keenness on Regional Stability, International Peace and Security

Doha, February 16 (QNA) - Qatari daily Al-Sharq hailed in its editorial on Tuesday the core of the State of Qatar's foreign policy, which is based on the principle of settling disputes through dialogue, raising the voice of wisdom and the principles of peaceful settlement of disputes. The paper stressed that the State of Qatar spares no efforts in order to reduce tensions and escalation, whether at the regional or international levels, and in this regard it has a record of successes in maintaining international peace and security. The newspaper said that Qatar has affirmed that its contacts, whether with the American side or the Iranian side, is continuing, and this is normal because Qatar is a neighboring country to Iran and that what is happening in the region is directly reflected in it, as well as the strategic relations that link Qatar with the United States. In this regard, the newspaper referred to the written message sent by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to HE President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hassan Rouhani, as well as the talks held by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, during which they reviewed bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in the region, as well as issues of mutual concern. The paper pointed out that the confidence Qatar enjoys by Washington and Tehran, and its keenness to reduce escalation and tension in the region, what makes it affirm its willingness to contribute to restoring stability to the region if it is asked to do so. Al-Sharq concluded that HH the Amir took the lead for more than five years and before the escalation of crises in the region, in proposing a vision for establishing an effective framework for collective security in the region and for dialogue based on common interests for peace and prosperity.
