Al-Sharq: Qatar is One of First Countries in Preserving History, Heritage

Doha, January 13 (QNA) - Al-Sharq newspaper emphasized in its editorial Wednesday that the State of Qatar remains proactive in preserving its history, based on Qatar National Vision 2030, which combines history and inherited traditions, and between the future and the aspiration to progress. The paper noted that cultural institutions in Qatar play a vital role in preserving Qatari history, whether through scientific publishing and academic studies, or by commemorating history and heritage in continuous activities that highlight the cultural and heritage aspect of the State. In this regard, the newspaper noted that the Department of Archaeology at Qatar Museums (QM) announced the discovery of archaeological remains dating back hundreds of years BC in Asaila cemeteries, one of the oldest archaeological sites in the country, appreciating the efforts made within the framework of the State of Qatar's keenness in its rich history, civilization and heritage, which are part of the history of the Arab Gulf region. Al-Sharq said that such archeology provides many evidence indicating human settlement in this area, and helps to understand and know the nature of the geography and ancient Qatari history. The newspaper pointed out that the State's interest in its history, civilization and heritage comes from its vision of creating a bridge linking the past and the present with the future, providing generations with the history of their ancestors, and documenting the activities that Qatar and the region witnessed in the Bronze Age. Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that the inclusion of Al-Zubarah on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as one of the best-preserved examples of an 18th and 19th century Gulf merchant town, was nothing but an expression of Qatar's keenness on preserving its history.
