Al Watan Commends the Hard Work of Qatar's Health Institutions in Combating Coronavirus

Doha, April 17 (QNA) - Al Watan daily newspaper, praised, in its editorial today, the tireless work that the Qatari health institutions are doing to combat the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and said that this work deserves great praise, especially since confronting the virus did not stop at early detection, and creating quarantine for the infected, but rather, scientific research proceeded to find medical treatments capable of dealing with the pandemic. It added that Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) beginning to use blood plasma to treat some COVID-19 cases at its Communicable Diseases Center (CDC), which represents a major progress for the Qatari health sector, as founded on the use of this treatment previously in dealing with similar viruses, such as "SARS" and the Middle East syndrome and swine flu (H1N1). It also pointed that CDC Medical Director Dr. Muna Al Maslamani gave good news that some plasma treatment results have been positive. The plasma center was opened in the CDC in cooperation with Blood Transfusion department at the Hamad Medical Corporation where the modern plasma center was provided with the latest devices that separate the plasma from the blood directly, and then at the same time return the other components of the donor. The newspaper pointed out that although the effectiveness of any conclusive treatment for the Coronavirus has not been proven, the use of plasma treatment technology on a limited number of patients is experimental as part of scientific studies, gave encouraging results, pending scientific studies on greater numbers of patients to prove the effectiveness of this type of treatment. Al Watan concluded its editorial that the encouraging results reached by the Qatari health institutions confirm that this sector deserves the praise of the people of Qatar in honor of the tireless pursuit of health, safety and sustainable medical progress in the State of Qatar.
