All Activities Around Waters Of Nusakambangan Stopped Temporarily

All activities in the waters around the island of Nusakambangan off Cilacap, Central Java, have been halted ahead of the execution of five drug convicts on death row at 00.00 hours on Sunday. The "sterilization" was carried out by marine police personnel from the Cilacap Resort Command, Antara learned here on Saturday. The police asked people fishing in the waters around Nusakambangan, as well as fishermen in Segara Anakan, to stop their fishing activities temporarily and leave the location. They also asked traditional boats ferrying passengers between the piers of Wijayapura and Sodong to stop their services from 3 p.m.. The route is served by Pengayoman III and IV boats belonging to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Chief of the Cilacap Police Command Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ulung Sampurna Jaya said earlier that he planned to deploy his personnel to secure Nusakambangan and Wijayapura by stationing them at locations connected to the execution plan. "We will station personnel to secure and clear a number of locations in Nusakambangan, as well as Wijayapura pier," he stated here on Thursday. Jaya added that his personnel will also help secure the route to where bodies of the prisoners will be taken for burial. The police chief, however, did not mention the number of the personnel to be deployed, which depends on the number of locations considered vulnerable to security disruptions. The five drug convicts to be executed on Sunday are Dutch national Ang Kim Soei (62), Malawi citizen Namaona Denis (48), Marco Archer Cardoso Mareira (53), a Brazilian, Daniel Enemua (38), a Nigerian, and Indonesian citizen Rani Andriani alias Melisa Aprilia (38). Another convict, Vietnamese Tran Thi Bich Hanh (37), will be executed in Boyolali, Central Java, at the same time.
