All Nations Proud Of Great Figures Like Saˈdi, Hafez : French Envoy

Shiraz, April 21, IRNA -- French Ambassador to Iran Bruno Foucher said that great figures such as Saˈdi and Hafez are source of honor for all the nations worldwide. Talking to IRNA while touring Shiraz historical sites, he said that Parse Complex is one of the most unique tourism attractions in the world. Shiraz is one of the famous cities in the world, he noted. ˈShiraz and Isfahan are tourism destinations for the French people.ˈ The ambassador called for boosting cultural interactions between the two nations. All the peoples in the world are aware of Saˈdiˈs language and thought, which can serve as a basis for international cultural exchanges, Foucher said. Abu Mohammad Mosleheddin Saˈdi Shirazi was one of the major Persian poets of the medieval period. He is not only famous in Persian-speaking countries, his poetry and prose heritage are well-known and quoted in the western literary references as well. He is recognized for the quality of his writings and for the depth of his social and moral thoughts. His best known works are Bustan (the orchard) completed in 1257 and Golestan (the rose garden) in 1258. Bustan is entirely in verse and consists of stories aptly illustrating the standard virtues recommended to Muslims (justice, liberality, modesty, contentment) as well as of reflections on the behavior of dervishes and their ecstatic practices. Golestan is mainly in prose and contains stories and personal anecdotes. The text is interspersed with a variety of short poems, containing aphorisms, advice, and humorous reflections. Saˈdi demonstrates a profound awareness of the absurdity of human existence. The fate of those who depend on the changeable moods of kings is contrasted with the freedom of the dervishes./end
