All Systems Go For Langkawi Retreat

LANGKAWI ,(Kedah, Malaysia) April 27 (Bernama) -- The stage is now set for Langkawi to host the 26th ASEAN Summit 2015 Retreat as Heads of Governments from the 10 member nations are expected to arrive as early as Monday afternoon. All agencies involved in organising the retreat had reached the final preparation as they looked forward into making it the best ever to be held. Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Chief Executive Officer, Khalid Ramli said all the facilities had been checked and fine-tuned to ensure the smooth-running of the event. "I have made a series of checks together with the ministers and other senior officers on the facilities and we are quite satisfied with what had been done so far," he said. He said the route between the international airport and the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC), where the retreat would be held, had been decorated with welcoming billboards and signages, as well as the flags of the member nations. The retreat is the second session of the Asean Summit after the plenary session in Kuala Lumpur earlier. A statement by the Summit's media secretariat said that leaders are expected to adopt a Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement of Moderates aimed to strengthen ASEAN unity and solidarity and its central role in maintaining and promoting peace, stability, harmony and prosperity in the region. Apart from that, the 11th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit and the 9th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Summit will convene here on Tuesday (April 28). -- BERNAMA
