All Thai concerned agencies ordered to plan water allocation

BANGKOK, November 9 (TNA) - In response to drought, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has ordered all agencies concerned to plan water allocation and ecosystem conservation well. Thai Government Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd told journalists on Monday that the prime minister has issued the instruction to the Ministries of Interior, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Natural Resources and Environment and Commerce in order to get through this year's drought. The spokesman said the prime minister has ordered the concerned ministries to integrate their water allocation plans, properly use water to conserve ecosystems and convince people to save their water consumption and farmers to grow appropriate kinds of plants. According to the spokesman, farmers in drought-affected areas are encouraged to turn from rice which consumes much water to other plants that need less water and can be sold at good prices due to market demands. The spokesman revealed that officials of the Ministries of Interior Agricultural and Cooperatives and Commerce, in cooperation with local business operators, are advised farmers on suitable kinds of plants in different areas, while the government has prepared markets for their crops.
