Ambassador meets UK Labour Party leader

London, July 11 (BNA): Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to United Kingdom, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, met the Leader of the Labour Party and member of the British House of Commons, Jeremy Corbyn, in the presence of Head of the Arab League of States Office in London, Ibrahim Mohieldeen, in addition to a number of Arab ambassadors accredited in the United Kingdom, and a number of MPs and Labour Party officials. During the meeting, the ambassador discussed the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries spanning over two centuries, and stressed that these relations are reinforced through continuous bilateral visits and open discussions with all parties to serve the political, economic and cultural cooperation between them. The ambassador also displayed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, which are distinguished through coordination between the governments of the two countries while dealing with urgent changes. The ambassador also held a brief presentation of the unprecedented achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the region in order to promote and protect human rights and achieve sustainable human development sought by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, through a set of legislations and regulations introduced in recent years, that contribute to the achievements that have been launched in the reform approach of His Majesty the King since 2001. In his presentation, the ambassador also affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is the first country in the region to establish an Ombudsman's office and the first to publish reports on the inspection of prisons and places of detention, highlighting that the Kingdom is also considered the first to end the sponsorship system and establish a system that complies with United Nations standards in the field of work. The ambassador also noted the Kingdom’s big achievement in regards to combatting human trafficking, by receiving Tier 1 status in the US State Department 2018 Trafficking in Persons Report, as well as the Kingdom’s various achievements in women and youth empowerment. For his part, Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, affirmed the Party's keenness to strengthen the relations between the Labour Party and the Arab countries, highlighting the importance of strategic relations between the United Kingdom and the Arab countries. He also stressed the importance of communication between the two parties in order to maintain coordination and dialogue on issues of common concern. For his part, Shadow Minister for Peace and Disarmament, Fabian Hamilton, expressed his pride of the existing friendly relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing the importance of enhancing and investing in them.
