Amend Act To Protect Sexual Harassment Victims - WAO

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) has urged the government to amend the Sexual Harassment Act to protect the victims. In a statement issued here Friday, WAO said the act should not only cover workplaces but all settings, including public spaces. “The Sexual Harassment Act must create the necessary mechanism such as an independent tribunal which allows the survivors to get justice quickly, cheaply and privately,” it said. The act must also require institutions to implement sexual harassment policies, it added. “Ensuring robust legal protection against sexual harassment is crucial as it sends the message that sexual harassment is never acceptable. “In tandem with enacting laws, we also need to change norms and allow survivors to voice their experiences,” the statement said. -- BERNAMA
