America To Cooperate With Malaysia At United Nations

JAKARTA (Indonesia), Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The United States of America (US) on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Najib Razak on Malaysia being elected to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Najib said this was conveyed to him by the United States' Secretary of State John Kerry when the latter paid him a courtesy call after attending Joko Widodo's inauguration as the seventh president of the Republic of Indonesia here. "Senator John Terry also conveys the readiness by the United States to cooperate with Malaysia at the United nations (UN)," he told Malaysian journalists before returning to Kuala Lumpur on Monday night. During the meeting, Najib said, he also informed Kerry that Malaysia would play a more active role in combating the spread of the Virus Ebola (EVD) disease. He said Malaysia had contributed USD$20 million in rubber gloves for distribution to five countries hit by EVD. On threats by the Islamic State militant group (IS), Najib said the United States appreciated Malaysia's stand on the matter and hoped she would help in curbing the spread of the ideology. He said the United States' administration under President Barack Obama was also concerned with the change in world climate and its effects and hoped Malaysia would support its efforts. Najib said he also had the opportunity to meet with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, during which they discussed efforts to trace the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370. We agreed that China should be consulted before further action pertaining to the missing aircraft is taken, he added. The aircraft, which carried 227 passengers and 12 crew on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, disappeared from the radar about an hour after departing from the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8. --BERNAMA
