Andaman coastal provinces raise marine safety standard

PHUKET, June 26 (TNA) - In an effort to promote tourism business, the marine department launched a campaign to raise the marine safety standard, selecting Phuket as a model of the Andaman coastal provinces including Phangnga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang and Satun. Deputy Transport Minister Omsin Chiwaphruek presided over the launching of activities to improving marine safety standard at the Boat Lagoon Resort in Phuket. The event was attended by Sornsak Saensombat, director-general of Marine Department, Phuket governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada and marine transportation operators from the six provinces. The Marine Department and related agencies also signed the ‘Andaman Agreement’ designed for improving marine travelling safety. Omsin said Phuket has been chosen as the model for marine safety along the coastal of the Andaman Sea stressing that the marine safety strategy comprises of “1P 3R” which includes Prevention, Response, Recovery, and Research and Development .
