PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Anifah Aman is to attend a tri-nation meeting in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, Thursday aimed at enhancing maritime security in view of recent kidnapping incidents in the waters of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The meeting will also be attended by the chiefs of the armed forces of the three countries, said a statement released Wednesday by the Foreign Affairs Ministry. It said the meeting will discuss joint efforts to strengthen coordination and cooperation with a view to enhancing maritime security in the waters of the three countries, particular in view of recent kidnapping incidents. Malaysia is committed to working with Indonesia and the Philippines in the maintenance of peace, security and stability in the area and region, the statement said. It said Anifah was invited to the meeting by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi. Four Malaysians, Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21, were abducted by eight armed men in the waters off Semporna, Sabah, while returning to Malaysia from the Philippines on April 1. On March 26, ten sailors from Indonesia were kidnapped from a tugboat in the waters of southwestern Philippines. They were released on Sunday. -- BERNAMA
