Another anti-coup activist freed on bail

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Another anti-coup activist, Sombat Boonngam-anong, has been released on a 300,000 baht-bail. The red-clad activist was freed on bail by Bangkok's Martial Court on Wednesday on the condition that he must not incite unrest or law violation among people and must not leave Thailand without a permission from interrogators. Sombat was arrested on June 5, 2014 for failing to report himself to the Thai army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), as ordered, and he had been jailed ever since. Meanwhile, ex-Thai education minister Chaturon Chaisaeng has been freed on bail. Chaturon, however, reported himself to the Martial Court on Wednesday morning, when interrogators sought the court's approval of his new-phase 12-day extended detention, from July 3 to 14. But the Martial Court said, as the ex-Thai education minister was temporarily released on bail during his past presence at the court, he was, again, released. The former education minister under the Pheu Thai Party was also charged with violating the Computer Act and inciting unrest and law violation. The ex-education minister and his lawyers will reportedly do their best in the defence, as the former education minister faces many charges and is liable to severe legal punishment. (TNA)
