Another mall blaze in Phuket

PHUKET, October 19 (TN) - A fire raged through a big shopping mall in Phuket Province in the Thai South on early Saturday morning, the second of such incident less than five days. However, no one was injured by the blaze, which broke out at “Karon” Plaza in Muaeng district at around 5:56am. Three fire trucks were sent to contain the fire from spreading to nearby hotels and retail shops. The blaze was put out within 30 minutes. A police officer at the scene confirmed that no one was at the mall when the fire broke out because it was still early. The police officer told reporters that a total of seven sale booths were engulfed and total damage caused by the fire was initially estimated at 500,000 baht. “Karon” Plaza is a big shopping mall in Phuket, where clothes, shoes and other merchandises were sold. Investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, which remained unclear. The fire occurred just three days after a mega blaze at the SupearCheap Store, another big department store in Phuket, which took firefighters more than 10 hours to put out. (TNA)
