Anti-graft panel discloses assets of ex-Thai MPs

BANGKOK, February 3 (TNA) - Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) reports assets and liabilities of 479 former House representatives, one year after former Pheu Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra had dissolved the Lower House on December 9, 2013. According to the NACC report, publicly released on Tuesday, Yingluck had overall assets of 586,757,419.56 baht and debts of 30,562,708 baht, meaning she was 42 million baht richer than when she assumed to the premiership and 11 million baht wealthier than her assets at the end of her tenure. The assets of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva amounted to 55,022,675.92 baht without debt, meaning that he was 726,469.15 baht richer than he had been at the end of his MP term. Boonsong Teriyapirom, former Pheu Thai MP and commerce minister, who was charged by NACC for wrongdoing in government-to-government rice deals, had net assets of 17,586,329.12 baht and debts of 242,582 baht. His assets grew by 13 million baht from the time of his position assumption, but declined by 400,000 baht compared with what he had at the end of his House term. Former House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont had net assets of 1,210,102.43 baht without debt. Former deputy commerce minister Pum Sarapol's assets stood at 39,377,047 baht, without debt, a drop by 2,126,817 baht from the time when his term ended. (TNA)
