APEC Leaders Agree To Accelerate Achievement Of Bogor Goals

Nusa Dua, Bali, Oct 8 (Antara) - Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders agreed on Tuesday on the urgent need for accelerating efforts to achieve the "Bogor Goals" set out during the APEC Summit held in 1994 in Bogor, Indonesia. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who presented the results of the APEC Summit 2013, which was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from October 1 to 8, stated that the APEC leaders` commitment would be in line with providing opportunities to all parties. "Through long discussions, we have agreed on a number of strategic points. We have common views that all APEC economies must be able to enjoy equal benefits stemming from the cooperation among APEC economies," he said, while being flanked by 21 APEC leaders. Bogor Goals were agreements formulated during the APEC Summit held in Bogor in 1994, which was one of the main agendas discussed at the latest APEC Summit in Bali. Some of the Bogor Goals that need to be achieved by 2020 are liberalization of trade and investment, business facilitation and economic and technical cooperation. The agreement also includes support for the completion of the Doha round, boosting efficiency of logistics chain by up to 10 percent and implementing a reduction in barriers for environmental-friendly goods by 2015.
