APPA Awards for 3 Outstanding Malaysian Paediatricians

KUCHING, (Sarawak, Malaysia) Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Three Malaysians will be among 19 recipients of the Outstanding Asian Paediatrician Awards. Asia Pacific Paediatric Association (APPA) president Dr Zulkipli Ismail, Damansara Hospital consultant paediatrician and neonatologist Dr Musa Nordin and Ipoh Hospital Paediatric Department head Dr Amar Singh will receive the awards at the five-day 14th Asia Pacific Paediatrics Congress and fourth Asia Pacific Paediatric Nursing Congress which began here Saturday. "This is the first time that three Malaysians are being honoured at the same time. The other award recipients are from the Philippines, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam," Dr Zulkipli told a news conference. On the congress themed "Towards Equity in Child Health", the doctor said there was a need to think of ways to bridge child health and paediatrics disparities between countries and within a country. "We'll have to get the 1,300 paediatricians at the congress to think globally but act locally. We've been doing positive parenting programmes in Kuala Lumpur to this end," he said. -- BERNAMA
