Arab national arrested for promoting extremist ideas

Manama, May 26 (BNA): Advocate General and Chief Prosecutor of the Terror Crimes Prosecution Ahmed Al Hammadi affirmed that the Public Prosecution had received a report from the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence on a person's use of social networks to promote the ideology of an extremist organisation. He explained that those posts included incitement to hatred of a social segment, and degradation of its rituals. Investigations led to the identification of the suspect, who turned to be an Arab national residing in the kingdom, he said, adding that he was arrested following a warrant issued by the Public Prosecution, and the electronic devices he used were seized. When questioned, the suspect admitted the charges, and said that he used to reject the extremist ideas of that organisation, but later embraced them and promoted them after being persuaded by one of its members through social media networks. The Public Prosecution charged him with promoting criminal incidents for terrorist purposes, and encroaching on a recognised sect publicly and insulting its rituals, Al-Hammadi said. The Public Prosecution remanded they suspect in custody for 15 days pending investigation, and ordered the examination of the seized item in preparation for an urgent trial.
