Argentina will consider invitation to join BRICS if it receives one - foreign minister

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. Argentina will consider an invitation to BRICS if it receives one, Argentine Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra told a press conference on Wednesday after talks with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. "Talking about BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), it represents a process of ripening, of integration of BRICS member countries. When it will be offered (for Argentina to become a member of BRICS), we will, of course, be ready to discuss this topic," Malcorra said. "We think that relations between Russia and Argentina may be further developed and strengthened. There are multiple opportunities, taking into account that Latin America and Argentina are a region free from conflicts in our world full of conflicts. We can say that we represent a region of peace," she added. "Argentina is ready to work at any platform," the foreign minister said adding that "we are ready to join any platform." BRICS, an informal association of five fast-developing countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - was founded in June 2006. Its first official summit was held in June 2009 in Yekaterinburg. Since then BRICS summits are held every year in the participating countries alternately. The latest summit was held on July 8 and July 9 in Ufa last year. Read more
